Family, Foundations, and a Farewell to a Remarkable Life

Family, Foundations, and a Farewell to a Remarkable Life

July 02, 2025

This June, we marked nine years since founding Glenwood Financial Partners—an idea born from the desire to serve others with authenticity and stewardship at the center. As co-founders, Rick and I set out to build something more personal in June 2016, drawing on the trust we had earned together since we met in 2003. We wanted Glenwood to feel like family—for our clients, and with our clients.

This June also brought deeply personal milestones. My wife and I watched two of our sons graduate—one from college, one from high school. They’ve grown up watching Glenwood from the inside, through the early years and the fulfillment that comes from truly taking care of people. Our middle son was inspired so much that our beginnings became the subject of his college application essay.

And this June, Rick’s family said goodbye to a guiding light: Sally Robertson “Sassy” Shull, his beloved mother-in-law and a longtime client of Glenwood. At 97, Sassy left a remarkable legacy—artist, athlete, writer, and mentor—who connected generations with humor, humility, and a fierce love of life. She lived with grace, grit, and purpose. And she inspired us to show up every day for the people who count on us.

Sassy’s story reminds us that wealth is more than numbers—it’s about how we invest our time, values, and care in others.

At Glenwood, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We believe every family has a story worth listening to. If you or someone close to you is ready to be heard—really heard—we’d welcome the chance to explore a relationship.

With gratitude for your trust and time,
Michael Hakerem & Rick McElroy
